Applied AI Engineer, Robotics Evaluation - Mid
Full-timeTC starting at 50kEvaluate and improve AI-powered robotics workflows across simulations, edge devices, and real hardware. Build rigorous test plans, debug system behavior, and help turn complex robot deployments into reliable customer-ready products.
Cyberwave is building the infrastructure layer for intelligent machines - making robotics as accessible, scalable, and programmable as cloud software. Our platform connects real robots, simulations, edge devices, cloud services, and developer tools into one reliable operating layer for robotics teams.
We're looking for a mid-to-senior Applied AI Engineer focused on robotics evaluation and reliability. This role sits at the intersection of applied AI, robotics systems, and product quality: you'll validate how Cyberwave behaves across real robots, simulations, telemetry streams, edge devices, APIs, and user-facing workflows.
This is not a traditional QA role. You'll design experiments, create evaluation plans, debug ambiguous failures, and work directly with engineering to improve AI-assisted robotics workflows before they reach customers. We especially value people who have tested or integrated systems involving ROS or ROS 2, drones, AGVs/AMRs, robotic arms, cameras, sensors, PLCs, or other industrial automation equipment.
This is a hands-on role based in Milan, with regular access to real robots, automation hardware, and customer-facing deployment scenarios.
Work Style
Hands-on evaluation of AI-powered robotics infrastructure and products based in Milan
Requirements
- 3+ years of applied AI, robotics engineering, test engineering, automation engineering, QA, or systems integration experience
- Hands-on experience evaluating robotics, industrial automation, autonomous systems, or hardware-in-the-loop products
- Specific experience with ROS or ROS 2, including validating nodes, topics, services, launch files, logs, and robot behavior
- Experience with at least one class of real robotic or automation hardware, such as drones, AGVs/AMRs, robotic arms, mobile robots, cameras, sensors, PLCs, or industrial controllers
- Ability to turn complex system behavior into clear evaluation plans, acceptance criteria, reproduction steps, and release-readiness signals
- Comfort using developer tools such as Git, Docker, command-line utilities, APIs, logs, and basic scripting in Python or TypeScript
- Comfort debugging ambiguous failures across AI workflows, software, networking, edge devices, and physical hardware
- Comfortable working in English in an international, fast-moving environment
Responsibilities
- Design and run evaluations for Cyberwave infrastructure, AI-assisted workflows, frontend products, backend APIs, edge software, SDKs, and robotics integrations
- Validate hardware-in-the-loop workflows using real robots, simulations, telemetry streams, and edge devices
- Evaluate integrations involving ROS, ROS 2, drones, AGVs/AMRs, robotic arms, sensors, cameras, and industrial automation equipment
- Build repeatable regression checks for core product flows, including setup, pairing, telemetry, control, simulation, deployment, and monitoring
- Investigate failures across logs, network traces, robot behavior, UI state, AI outputs, and backend responses, then produce actionable reports
- Collaborate with engineering and product to define evaluation criteria and release gates for new robotics capabilities
- Help improve evaluation infrastructure, test data, device labs, and documentation so the team can move faster with confidence
